11/08/22 Reflection

Today is all about doing self-direct work. I combine the outcome of two workshops into one, developing the possibility of the installation idea. I cut dazzle patterns I create in Monoprint workshop into strips and stick them in a lenticular form on the mirror-like wall for the space I made.

Also, I listed out all the anxiety triggers and wrote them at the bottom to symbolise the negative energy in the surrounding context. Afterwards, the lenticular mirror with a dazzling pattern is what represents an approach people can re-examine themselves.

I like the idea of a stick dazzled pattern stripe on the 'mirror', I tried to create a sense of calmness. However, they came out with more of a chaotic feeling, as what Dom said to me. Instead, he felt that the range of patterns I made before cutting looks calmer.

After seeing the comment from Suzanne on Padlet. I asked my parents, letting them comment on the installation sample I made. My mom thinks if she is in such a space, she will feel like going into a time tunnel because of the circular pattern on the surface. My dad commented that the pattern is dynamic and has a strong contrast. Also, he feels the pattern gives him an old-fashion feeling, as some parts are fading away.

Another thing I found interesting from conversations is what makes them feel calm. My mom said she feels calm when she closes her eyes. By doing this, the colour she can only see is black so there is no intervention from other colours that can lead you to a specific mood. On the other hand, my dad said nature and far sight make him calm. This inspired me to apply a plain colour or nature-related object to my work.

Regarding the displacement and the outcome form, instead of a round space, think about a square room that allows me to express two emotions better in one room, causing less conflict. I want to explore more possibilities. Therefore, my next step is to try to print it out and stick the dazzle pattern on the window to see how it goes.
